Life in The Poconos was hard in 1816. Immigrants, fleeing from persecution overseas, settled there and farmed for their sustenance.

It was dusty. Horse and buggies, the main means of transportation in those days, kicked up dirt from the scraped out trails that connected farmhouses with town.
